What do I need to do once I’ve set up a policy?

Congratulations on setting up your new pet insurance policy. Here's a quick guide on what to do next:

Check your Certificate of Insurance: Make sure all the information on the Certificate of Insurance is correct. If you notice any errors or need to make changes, don't hesitate to reach out to our friendly team for assistance.

Understand Coverage Limitations: Remember, pet insurance is designed to help with unexpected injuries and illnesses. This means pre-existing conditions, when any signs and symptoms of those conditions appeared before the policy’s exclusion periods have ended, aren't covered.

First vet visit for puppies and kittens: If your policy is for a puppy or kitten, ensure they have at least one vet visit to establish a medical history. This is necessary before you can request a pre-existing conditions assessment. After their first vet visit, just let us know to proceed with a pre-existing conditions assessment.

Request a Pre-Existing Conditions Assessment: Request this as soon as your policy begins. We’ll gather your pet’s medical history from any previous vet visits to identify any conditions that might not be covered. Knowing what’s included in your coverage right from the start helps manage your expectations.

Fast-track future claims: Traditionally, pet insurance providers reviewed your pet’s medical history at the time of your first claim, which is also when any pre-existing conditions are identified. By requesting a pre-existing condition assessment during your cooling-off period, you can gain a clear understanding of your coverage. Plus, we'll store your pet’s medical records on file, which helps us process any future claims faster and more efficiently. Reduction of Exclusion Periods for Specified Conditions: If you want to reduce the six-month exclusion period for Specified Conditions, including cruciate ligament damage, intervertebral disc disease, hip dysplasia, patella luxation, elbow dysplasia, osteochondritis dissecans (OCD), cherry eye, entropion, ectropion, and lumps, you can fill out and submit a request form. Download the form from our website or contact our team for a copy. Complete it, take it to your vet, and send it to us within 14 days of the vet visit. This can help certain conditions to be covered sooner.

Policy updates: After submitting the form or completing the pre-existing condition assessment, we’ll update your Certificate of Insurance to reflect any changes, ensuring it accurately shows the  updated status of your pet’s coverage.

We're here to support you on your pet insurance journey, so if you need any assistance, just let us know.
