A Pre-existing Condition Assessment is a medical assessment of your pet’s complete vet history by a vet to determine whether your pet has any Pre-existing Conditions that are excluded from the cover.
What happens during a Pre-existing Condition Assessment?
Once a list of your pet’s vets has been provided, we will contact the vets for your pet’s medical history to complete the assessment and an updated Certificate of Insurance will be issued confirming the outcome. If your pet has any Pre-existing Conditions, we’ll also advise whether these can be reviewed at a future date, the earliest future date you may request a review and any supporting information we will require at that time. Please note that exclusions are not automatically removed at the exclusion review date, and exclusions will only be removed if we are satisfied the medical evidence confirms the Pre-existing Condition has been successfully treated or resolved. If a Pre-existing Condition is not reviewable, it will be permanently excluded from the cover.
How can I request a Pre-existing Condition Assessment?
To request a Pre-existing Condition Assessment, simply reply to your welcome email with a list of your pet’s vets and we'll contact them for your pet’s medical history to complete the assessment. You can also email insurance@petsy.com.au with your policy number and your request.
How long does a Pre-existing Condition Assessment take?
The usual time for a Pre-existing Condition Assessment to be completed is between 2-10 business days (depending on the age and history of your pet), once the medical history for your pet has been received from the relevant vet clinics. An updated Certificate of Insurance will be issued on the same business day it is completed, confirming the outcome of the assessment.
When can I apply for a Pre-existing Condition Assessment?
You can apply for a Pre-existing Condition Assessment at any time after starting your policy. We recommend getting one completed straight after purchasing your new pet insurance policy. If you choose not to complete it when you start your policy, it will be completed during the time of your first claim.
