Is Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) covered?

BOAS is not covered under the standard terms of the policy . Petsy Pet Insurance is designed to protect against unforeseen vet costs, but since BOAS often is present at a young age in certain breeds, the costs associated with treating this condition are considered foreseeable rather than unexpected.

BOAS refers to conditions in pets that include symptoms or diagnoses such as stenotic nares (narrowed nostrils), an elongated soft palate, distortion of pharyngeal/laryngeal soft tissues, macroglossia (enlarged tongue), and/or a hypoplastic trachea (small windpipe).

You can apply for coverage of BOAS treatment costs if your pet has not yet shown signs or symptoms of the condition. Coverage can only begin after the Petsy Brachycephalic Obstructive Airways Syndrome (BOAS) Application form has been submitted and accepted by us.

Here’s how to apply:

Download and Complete the Application Form: Find and complete the application form here. Fill out Part 1.

Vet Examination: Have your vet examine your pet and complete Part 2 of the form.

Submit the Form: Send the completed form, along with your pet’s full veterinary history, to us within 14 days of the vet visit.

Review Outcome: We will review your application and notify you of the outcome. If approved, we will update your policy to include BOAS treatment and issue an updated Certificate of Insurance reflecting this change.
